Tusker Mihindu – Ehetuwewa, Galgamuwa
In the quiet wilderness of Ehetuwewa, Galgamuwa, a majestic tusker named Mihindu was seen moving calmly with a large elephant herd.
Mihindu is nearly twenty five years old, strong, graceful, and peaceful in his movement. Around him, the herd walked together with confidence, including three tuskers among them. It was a rare and beautiful sight to see such powerful elephants moving side by side without aggression or disturbance.
At the time, Mihindu was not in musth. His calm behaviour showed a peaceful moment in the wild, where the herd moved naturally through their familiar land. No rush. No fear. Just the silent strength of elephants walking together as one family.
Scenes like this remind us how precious Sri Lanka’s wild elephants are. Each tusker carries a story. Each herd carries generations of memory. But their world is becoming smaller day by day because of roads, fences, farming lands, and human-elephant conflict.
Tusker Mihindu is not just another elephant. He is a living treasure of Galgamuwa, a symbol of strength, beauty, and survival.
